Aurigny owns a single Embraer E195 E-Jet, registration:G-NSEY, which operates four daily flights on the GCI-LGW-GCI route, the only route it operates.
On this aircraft, they operate a 2-2 single-class config, as with their ATR fleet. This aircraft carries 122 PAX in this config with very good legroom, especially for an ultra-short-haul flight!
The services at GCI are not too advanced, however they are very nice, the upstairs cafe giving a brilliant view over most of the airfield meaning that I was able to catch my aircraft arriving before heading through security to the gate!
Security was small and quick, allowing for much more time in the departure lounge than planned. This may sound good, however there are Bailwick of Guernsey reps walking around the departure lounge with iPads ready to get people to take place in a survey. Not the end of the world, but if you don`t like these, it is annoying.
When the time came to board, our flight was called and we queued up, almost filling up the departure hall. Waiting for the aircraft to be prepped for boarding, we waited in the long glass corridor, exposed to the hot conditions. This could be problematic if it was very cold or hotter than it was on our day of flying. We were given a warm, Aurigny greeting as we boarded. I had a wing seat (obviously) and a standard very comfortable seat with good legroom as with every AUR seat.
At the very short cruise, we were offered food, drinks and merchandise (the food and drink was not free, acceptable due to the very short flying time).
Upon landing at Gatwick, the rear section of the aircraft was deboarded by airstairs and the front by Jetway. Despite being in the rear section, I deboarded via the jetway with a cockpit visit. Through the Jetway, I had a new experience at Gatwick as we had to walk down the stairs, out onto the apron and be bus-driven to the domestic terminal.
All in all, the Aurigny experience, on both of their aircraft that fly to Gatwick, is outstanding, the cabin crew AND flight crew both being incredibly kind and treating us like first class PAX.
thank you Aurigny and happy flying to my readers!
